What is an Audio Interface?

At its core, an audio interface is a hardware unit that connects audio equipment to a computer. Unlike built-in sound cards, which often have limited capabilities, audio interfaces are designed to deliver superior audio quality, lower noise levels, and more flexible connectivity. They typically feature inputs for microphones (XLR), instruments (¼-inch), and outputs for speakers or headphones.
